Shaping Public Health in the Courts Webinar

In a webinar that we hosted with ChangeLab Solutions on June 25th, Sabrina Adler (ChangeLab Solutions) moderated the discussion between Susan Polan (American Public Health Association), Wendy Parmet (Northeastern University School of Law), and Gregg Gonsalves (Defend Public Health). 

Susan Polan discussed how and why the APHA is taking a more “proactive posture” as an organization and is therefore involved in seven active lawsuits. APHA is leading the charge in the AAP v. Kennedy case, the same case for which PHLW is writing amicus briefs.

Wendy Parmet spoke about PHLW’s work on amicus briefs and why we utilize this legal strategy. She talked about our focus on state-level cases, litigation tracking, and collaborating with scientists on these efforts.

Gregg Gonsalves talked about his experience as an epidemiologist working with lawyers on amicus briefs. He homed in on the challenges that lawyers, epidemiologists, and clinicians can face when working together, and the importance of building trust to effectively do this work.
